Note: Our Google Title Tag Tool uses a 512px wide input field and Arial 18px as the font - this is the new way Google handles title tags. If the title tag exceeds the 512px limit, the last word will be removed completely and replaced with "..." There is no magic number anymore, but it will be somewhere between 42 and 62 characters depending on a bunch of variables.

Other search engines (ie Yahoo & Bing) still use a character limit of 65 characters.
