UAB's Center for Labor Education and Research offers education and programming to promote workplace safety training. UAB partnered with Kinetic to create a training CD-ROM for firefighters and industrial workers, instructing them on how to properly respond to an emergency situation involving potentially hazardous materials.
The CD-ROM includes many features, including a scoring component, timer, and a series of questions, video segments and interactive maps. When participants click on responses to questions, they are either rewarded for correct answers and allowed to continue the exercise, or they must go back and try again. A reference area is also available to aid participants in the decision making process.
